PEJU AKANDE

Peju Akande is a past winner of the Liberty Short Story competition (1998) and Second runner-up in the BBC Short stories awards (1999).

An experienced copy writer and advertising practitioner, she has maintained a weekly column in sabinews.com (now 1stnews.com) for 5 years. Her writings focus on gender issues and the place of women in an urban conurbation like Lagos. A “Women in Journalism” (WiJ) honoree (2016), Akande is co-founder of sabinews.com, thisislagos.ng and radi8ng.com.

Peju is the author of Tales from the Streets; she is also co-author of 3 biographies – Julius Agwu’s Jokes Apart, How did I get here?; DJ Jimmy Jatt’s – Avant Garde: The Jimmy Jatt Story; S.O Shonibare – Legend of All Time; Austin Avuru: A Safe Pair of Hands.

She co-edited the 2018 biography, ‘Hunger for Power’ by Newton Jibunoh, desert warrior and only man to cross the Sahara Desert three times.
