Blackman Akeeb Kareem is a Nigerian singer/songwriter whose prolific career spans five decades. Known for his haunting and powerful vocal delivery, Blackman released his debut album “Mother Is Gold (Iya Ni Wura) in 1973. The album with the hit song “Olu-Igbo (King of the bush) was an instant success with record buyers who not only identified with Blackman’s unique blend of African folk pop, but also with his deeply philosophical and Afrocentric themed lyrics delivered in Yoruba and English. A succession of hit songs such as such as “Awa Na Re”, “Ololufe (My Love)”, “Amebo”, “Kekere Jojolo” and many others would follow suit and by the mid 80s with 10 hit albums to his name, Blackman Akeeb Kareem had cemented his status as a formidable force on the Nigerian music scene. In 1984 he embarked on self imposed exile to the United Kingdom. He is currently working on new material which is due for release in 2020/21.
