Stella Nyanzi is the mother of three teenagers. She was recently released from maximum security prison where she spent fifteen months while charged with and later convicted for offensive communication and cyber harassment of Uganda’s president. In that time, she wrote and published a collection of 160 poems. She was later acquitted after serving the bulk of her sentence.
Stella Nyanzi is also a widely published medical anthropologist who was suspended from her job at Makerere University for staging a nude protest against the escalating violation of her labour rights. She sued the university and won.
Nyanzi is a human rights activist, social justice advocate and sold-out dissident against dictatorship, patriarchy, homophobia, repression, and authoritarianism. She actively plans, leads, participates in, and writes about dissent, non-violent protests and peaceful demonstrations. Stella Nyanzi aches for freedom and liberation.
