A slum may sound like an unlikely place for chess to thrive, but some chess enthusiasts knew better. Taking the game to deprived areas, teaching the locals and running competitions proved to be a surprising success. What are the benefits to society though? Does it help keep miscreants in check? Should we expand it across board? Tunde Onakoya will describe his project in more detail and see if he can recruit some arts enthusiasts to the chess-playing community, and perhaps to join his team playing chess in unusual places.
