Maryam Bukar Hassan, known as Alhanislam, is a performance poet, storyteller, and advocate whose work explores the intersection of voice, identity, and social change. She is the first-ever UN Global Advocate for Peace, was recognized among the 100 Most Reputable Africans in 2025, is the first Nigerian flag bearer at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympics, and is the author of A Poet’s Attempt to Freeze Time.
Through spoken word, she tells stories that challenge, heal, and inspire reflection. She founded True My Voice, a UN SDG Finalist initiative that empowers poets to use digital platforms for advocacy and storytelling while amplifying African voices.
Her work has taken her to global stages, including the Summit of the Future and COP28. At the heart of everything she does is a belief in the power of words to shift perspectives, inspire action, and create meaningful, lasting change.
