Despite strong family literary influences, Dr. Olaokun Soyinka is a Public Health Consultant. He currently runs the Primary Care Quality (PCQ) Project, in Nigeria, aimed at improving healthcare financing and access to health services at the grassroots. He was the Commissioner for Health, Ogun State, from 2011-2015 and Project Director for the Independent Verification Agent of the Federal Government Saving One Million Lives Programme until 2019. Before going to Ogun State, Dr Soyinka worked in Health Promotion for the WHO country office in Abuja.
An old boy of Government College Ibadan, his Medical Training was at St Thomas Hospital Medical School in London. He practiced medicine in the UK for several years during which time he developed a special interest in cardiology and founded and published the British Journal of Cardiology.
Dr Soyinka is married with children and lives in Lagos. In his leisure time he tries to improve his golf and guitar playing. He also secretly writes.
